This bowl was made at Zeze kiln in Shiga Prefecture in the Annam tradition — a Japanese ceramic response to Vietnamese cobalt-on-white ware that arrived through the tea trade. Cobalt chrysanthemum motifs float on a warm body. The form is open, quiet, assured.

Diameter 12 cm, height 7 cm. The double box carries a brush inscription by Tantansai, the 14th Grand Master of Urasenke (1893–1964). His presence here is not ornamental. It places the bowl within a specific conversation about the aesthetics of tea.

The chrysanthemums do not announce themselves. They persist. The lineage behind them does the same.
