Yoshimuki Shohei works at the Yoshimuki kiln in Osaka. Mishima carving is a technique of precision: geometric patterns incised into the clay body, inlaid slip, the surface revealed through careful reduction. This chawan carries hanabishi — the diamond flower — and yabane, the arrow feather, across its entire outer surface. The density of the carved field does not read as decoration. It reads as text written in a language the body understands before the mind does.
🔹 [ BASIC DETAILS ]

• Technique: Hori-Mishima carved slip inlay
• Era: Contemporary
• Origin: Osaka
• Dimensions: Height approx. 6 cm, Diameter approx. 13 cm
• Box: Signed tomobako
• Condition: Excellent — no chips, cracks, or repairs
Thirteen centimeters at the rim, six centimeters tall. Wide and deliberate. The foot is clean, the form composed. Tomobako signed by the maker. No chips, no cracks, no repairs.
Yoshimuki Shohei's carved Mishima work holds cultural weight specific to the Osaka ceramic tradition. The hanabishi pattern is a family crest motif, older than the tea ceremony itself. The yabane is a protective symbol. This bowl carries both without explanation.
