素材は煤竹（すすだけ）。長年囲炉裏の煙を吸い込んだ竹材が醸す深い飴色の肌合いは、人工では到達し得ない時間の蓄積そのものです。丸前の穂先は穏やかな曲線を描き、節は下方に据えられ、手に取った際の重心に静かな安定感を与えます。

筒書は大徳寺高桐院の松長剛山和尚による「庵の友」。高桐院は利休以来、茶の湯の精神的支柱であり続けた大徳寺塔頭の中でも、とりわけ静謐な佇まいで知られます。その住職が授けた銘は、独座の茶事における最も親密な道具——手に最も近く寄り添う茶杓——の本質を、三文字で言い当てています。

庵にあって友となるもの。客が去った後もそこに在り続けるもの。この茶杓はそのような存在です。
