Longevity written in two images, carried in bamboo.

Mei: 松上鶴 — Matsu-jo-tsuru, Crane upon Pine. The crane alighting on the pine: two symbols of endurance meeting at a single point. This chashaku was named by Ueda Gizan, a priest of the Daitokuji school — a lineage that has shaped the vocabulary of Japanese tea culture for centuries.

The bamboo is clean and slightly warm in tone, the proportions settled. The calligraphy on the tube and wooden box lid shows the practiced hand of a practiced mind. To hold this scoop during preparation is to hold a small continuity — between the priest who named it, the tradition it belongs to, and the bowl it serves.

Presented in bamboo tube with calligraphed mei and signed wooden box. Yellow cord intact.

Dimensions: L approx. 18.5 cm
