玉村登陽による萩焼の香合。果実形——おそらく柿あるいは桃——に象られたこの小さな器は、造形の必然性をそのまま体に帯びている。蓋頂部に施された茎と葉の細工が、自然物の記憶をそのまま写したような静けさをもたらしている。

柔らかなピンク・クリーム色の萩釉は、貫入とともに時間の重なりを刻んでいる。萩焼特有の多孔質の肌は、使い込まれるほどに景色が変化し、茶事において「七化け」と呼ばれる変容を見せる。この香合はその変容の途上にある。

共箱に「萩 香合 登陽」の銘と印あり。秋から移行期の席に映える一品。
