Every leaf rendered. None repeated.

Tada Chuun's medium natsume is covered — surface to surface — in gold sasa bamboo leaves. The black lacquer underneath is almost theoretical. What you see is leaf, vein, edge, and the space between where dew collects.

The technique is the content here. Togidashi for the broad leaf surfaces — polished flush into the lacquer, soft and luminous. Takamaki-e for the veins — raised, precise, catching light at angles the flat passages cannot. Each leaf was addressed individually. The density is not decorative. It is devotional.

The gold rim at the base completes the form without interrupting it. Inside the lid: clean black lacquer, gold rim. A quiet interior for a busy exterior. The contrast is intentional.

Signed by Tada Chuun. Tomobako included.

This is what sustained attention looks like when the material holds.
