A tea bowl by Suzuki Kiyoyasu, painted with gold fan panels on a black ground, each fan containing seigaiha wave scales, plum blossoms, and chrysanthemums. This is Kyoto decorative ware at the full extent of its vocabulary — dense, disciplined, and entirely intentional.
Diameter 12 cm, height 7.8 cm. The fan motif in tea culture carries seasonal and ceremonial weight: fans are tools of ceremony, of rank, of the breath between words. The gold painting is precise throughout. The three classical motifs — seigaiha, plum, chrysanthemum — span seasons and occasions.
