The bowl holds the quiet of an early spring morning.
Gohon ware traces its lineage to Joseon Korea. In the 17th century, Japanese tea masters commissioned bowls from Korean kilns — requesting something soft, something without display. The glaze that resulted, pale pink to cream with scattered kanoko (fawn-spot) markings, became one of the most beloved surfaces in the tea world.
Sugimoto Sadamitsu works within this tradition. The glaze here is gentle: cream ground, pink blush, the fawn-spots rising from the surface like frost on glass. At the base, hi-iro — fire blush — glows in faint terracotta where the flame touched the clay.
This bowl carries a connection to the Daitokuji temple tea tradition. That lineage does not decorate the bowl. It informs the silence it carries.
The form is approachable. The presence is still.
