Nakamura Kosai assembled this shiki (four-seasons) natsume set as a complete cycle — each lacquer body holding its own seasonal intelligence. The autumn piece carries chrysanthemum and pampas grass in gold maki-e against deep black. Summer arrives in gold lattice over warm beige, light filtering through a formal grid. The dark brown caddy holds autumn grasses with berries, the harvest at its edge. The red and black piece bears a gold crane — the New Year's threshold, stillness before movement begins again.
Each caddy: approximately H6.7–6.9 cm, D6.5–6.7 cm. Forms consistent across the set; motifs distinct.
To use one is to acknowledge where in the year you stand. To own the set is to hold the whole turning.
Condition: Very good. Minor wear consistent with age and careful use. All four pieces with original tomobako and tomobune.
