A natsume in the form of a thatched hut (tomoya), lacquered in matsu tame-nuri — the dark, reddish-brown depth that recalls pine heartwood in autumn. The body carries pine motifs in restrained gold maki-e. Open the lid and the interior reveals a different season entirely: gold chidori plovers crossing a black ground.
This inversion — quiet exterior, animated interior — is the work of a maker who understood that surprise belongs to the inside of things.
