Oshikoji-yaki wisteria tea bowl — oshikoji yaki matcha bowl signed, wisteria design kyo-yaki chawan, fuji flower overglaze tea bowl, Kyoto enamel tea bowl tomobako, purple gold wisteria chawan japan, japanese art pottery signed box, colorful kyoto tea bowl wisteria, kyo-yaki overglaze enamel bowl, spring flower tea ceremony bowl japan.
Wisteria descends in gold, green, and purple across a white crackle field. The clusters are heavy with the specific weight of the flower in full bloom — that late-spring moment when the racemes lengthen past restraint. The potter knew the difference between decoration and presence.
Diameter: approx. 12 cm | Height: approx. 7.5 cm
Full-size matcha bowl, suitable for both usucha and koicha
Signed wooden box (tomobako)
Condition: Excellent — no chips, no cracks; vivid glaze colors fully intact
Oshikoji is a street in Kyoto, and the kilns that carried its name worked in proximity to the imperial court for generations. Kyo-yaki — Kyoto ceramics — developed its particular aesthetic in this context: courtly, refined, deeply conversant with literary and seasonal imagery. Wisteria, fuji in Japanese, carries associations with both the aristocratic Fujiwara clan and with the suspended beauty of late spring — a moment that is over before it is fully named.
The overglaze enamel technique used here requires the base glaze to be fired first, the design painted onto the cold surface, and then refired at a lower temperature to set the colors. Each refiring is a risk. The vividness of the purple, the integrity of the gold — these are not given. They are achieved.
This bowl arrived with its signed tomobako, completing the record of its making and its care.
