A large natsume grounded in literary weight. The design draws from the Ise Monogatari — the Yatsuhashi episode, where eight-plank bridges cross the marshes of Mikawa and kakitsubata iris blooms in the wetland stillness. Gold maki-e renders the composition with assurance; raden (mother-of-pearl inlay) gives the iris petals an iridescent presence that shifts against the dark ground.
Made by Oi Koun-sai. The tomobako carries a certificate in the hand of Horiuchi Sokan, a mark of lineage and discernment within the tradition. The object holds its narrative quietly, without insistence.
