Nakamura Soetsu — Kotobuki-wa (Celebration Ring) Hira-Natsume
Hounsai-konomi | Daitoku-ji Oubai-in Kobayashi Taigen Inscription
Concentric rings of red and black lacquer radiate outward from the center of this flat-form natsume — the itomaki (thread-spool) motif rendered with geometric precision. The design is Hounsai-konomi: selected by Hounsai, the fifteenth-generation Grand Master of Urasenke, carrying the weight of that lineage in its formal DNA.
The kotobuki-wa pattern speaks to celebration and continuity — circles without beginning or end, stacked in alternating warmth and depth. Nakamura Soetsu executes the form with the exactness the konomi tradition demands. The lid bears an inscription by Kobayashi Taigen of Daitoku-ji Oubai-in, grounding this piece within the Zen temple network that has shaped chanoyu for five centuries.
Accompanied by signed tomobako with Taigen's calligraphy.
