Signed work by Komatsu Kazunori. Jindai-sugi (ancient buried cedar) with gold wave makie. Tomobako and tomobukuro included.

Jindai-sugi is cedar recovered from peat bogs — wood that has rested underground for thousands of years. The grain has turned silver-grey, almost mineral. It does not look like wood. It looks like time made visible.

The form is a fune — a boat. Miniature, precise, with a raised cabin structure at center. Gold wave makie traces the surface in fine strokes: kinami, golden waves.

The lid lifts. The interior receives a single incense pellet.

This is kodo — the way of incense — held in the form of a vessel.

Condition: no damage noted.
