Ceremony distilled into color and symbol.

This chawan by Hashimoto Shiun carries the kiku-kiri motif — chrysanthemum and paulownia, two of the most enduring emblems in Japanese court and ceremonial culture. Against a cream ground patterned with kikko-mon (hexagonal honeycomb motif), overglaze enamels in turquoise, deep purple, and layered gold bring the design to a quiet but unmistakable presence.

Shiun works in the Kyo-yaki tradition, where refinement does not announce itself. The decoration is dense but never loud. Each viewing angle reveals a slightly different arrangement of motif and ground — a quality that rewards use over display alone.

Condition: Very good. No chips or restoration. Signed wooden box (tomobako) included.

Dimensions: H approx. 7.5 cm | Diameter approx. 12.3 cm
