A chu-natsume in black lacquer, carrying the image of an old pine — oi-matsu — in gold maki-e. The pine needle clusters are rendered with a cloud-like softness, an approach that distinguishes Kawahata Sorin's hand from more literal interpretations of the motif. Small raden accents are placed with intention, catching light without competing with the gold.
The tomobako is inscribed with the title and the maker's seal. The object is new and unused, retaining its original cloth.
