Kaneko Nobuhiko's chaire from the Shiroyama kiln holds the quality that Hagi is known for: a glaze that softens without yielding. Milky white at the shoulder, it draws warmth toward the base where the terracotta clay asserts itself in pink and orange — the material present, unmasked, part of the conversation.
Horizontal throwing lines mark the passage of the maker's hands. The form is rounded, grounded, unhurried. A wooden fitted lid rests above it. Approximately H9cm. The tomobako carries the artist's mark (box has slight staining, as found). An object shaped by Hagi's particular understanding of earth.
