Kamiya Eisuke fires in ash glaze — the glaze produced by wood ash melting into clay at high temperature, each firing unrepeatable. This chawan shows deep green-brown with natural variation across the surface: pooling where the glaze thickened, thinning where it ran. The coarse clay beneath is present at the foot, visible as the maker left it. Tomobako signed.
🔹 [ BASIC DETAILS ]
• Artist: Kamiya Eisuke
• Technique: Natural ash glaze stoneware
• Era: Contemporary
• Origin: Japan
• Dimensions: Height approx. 6.4 cm, Diameter approx. 13.5 cm
• Box: Signed tomobako
• Condition: Excellent — no chips, cracks, or repairs
Thirteen point five centimeters at the rim, six point four centimeters tall. The form is wide and low, suited to the loose spiral of chasen whisking. The weight in the hand is substantial — this is a bowl that asks to be held. No chips, no cracks, no repairs.
Ash glaze carries the memory of the fire that made it. No two bowls from the same kiln firing are the same. This one is this one. Kamiya Eisuke's signature on the box names the hand that chose the clay, placed the bowl, and closed the kiln.
