An Izushi porcelain matcha bowl from Housen Kiln (豊泉窯), Hyogo. The pale celadon-white body carries ink-brushed leaf forms in blue-grey — each mark unhurried, each leaf distinct. A collector's specimen from one of Japan's living porcelain traditions. Includes original signed tomobako.

【 DETAILS 】
• Form: Matcha bowl (chawan)
• Glaze: Pale celadon-white with ink-brushed blue-grey leaf motif
• Dimensions: Diameter 13 cm, Height 7 cm
• Provenance: Housen Kiln (豊泉窯), Izushi, Hyogo Prefecture
• Condition: Good vintage condition, consistent with age
• Includes: Original signed tomobako (wooden box)
【 CULTURAL CONTEXT 】
Izushi ware (出石焼) emerged in Hyogo Prefecture in the late Edo period, refined under the patronage of the Sengoku clan. Its hallmark is a luminous white porcelain body — thin-walled, translucent — shaped in a tradition that absorbed both Korean and Chinese influences yet speaks a distinctly Japanese dialect. Housen Kiln continues this lineage, working with restraint and precision. The leaf motif on this bowl — rendered with a single brushstroke per form — embodies the Japanese aesthetic of *kanso* (簡素), the beauty of reduction.
【 DEEPER NOTES 】
The celadon wash on the interior takes on depth when warm matcha fills the bowl. The unglazed foot ring — rough, honest, grounded — anchors the vessel in earth even as the decorated exterior floats toward poetry. This is a bowl that asks you to slow down.
