Heian Zōhiko has lacquered objects in Kyoto since 1661. Over three and a half centuries, the house has maintained a single discipline: that urushi — lacquer — is not coating but transformation. This small round box named Kikuju, chrysanthemum longevity, carries that lineage in its surface.

The lid bears gold maki-e chrysanthemums rendered against a deep tame-nuri reddish-brown ground — the color of aged lacquer, of patience, of time made visible. The chrysanthemum here is not ornament. It is an argument about endurance.

Condition: good overall; interior of box shows light staining consistent with age and use. Diameter 10cm, height 5.7cm.
