A quietly beautiful Hagi-yaki tea bowl from Masamine Kiln (正峰窯), crafted by Odaka Shoho. The glaze settles in a warm blush-pink tone — the kind of color that only Hagi clay carries — fractured across the surface with fine kannyu crackle lines that speak of long use and natural transformation.
Hagi ware is one of the most revered kiln traditions in Japanese tea culture. Ranked second in the classic tea utensil hierarchy — "one Raku, two Hagi, three Karatsu" — Hagi bowls are known for their softness of form, their porous clay that absorbs tea over decades, and the way their glazes shift with time. This bowl embodies that tradition fully.
The compact cylindrical form fits the hands with ease. The inner surface offers a clean field for whisking matcha. Supplied with the artist's signed tomobako (original wooden box) inscribed "萩 茶碗 正峰窯造".
Dimensions: approx. diameter 11.5 cm, height 8.4 cm
Condition: Good vintage condition consistent with age and use.
Includes: Artist's signed tomobako (original wooden box)
