Hagi ware is made from local clay along the Seto Inland Sea that holds air in its body — the glaze crazed, the surface open, the color shifting between salmon, pink, and cream depending on the light. This chawan embodies those qualities without excess.

Hagi is said to change over years of use. Tea passes through the clay, slowly. The bowl becomes something it was not when it arrived.
