Shigaraki does not ask for approval.
The fourth-generation Okuda Chuzaemon works from Shiga Prefecture, where Shigaraki clay has been fired since the Kamakura period. The lineage of Chuzaemon kilns is one of the distinguished names in Shigaraki tradition — craft inherited, not invented.
This chawan is the result of that inheritance meeting fire without interference. Natural ash glaze — shizen-yu — has settled across the surface where the kiln's atmosphere dictated. At the rim, terracotta. Toward the foot, sandy beige. The gradient was not painted. It was earned.
Feldspar inclusions catch light across the body, small white flecks in the clay speaking to the geology of the Shigaraki hills. The form has heft. It asks to be held.
The tomobako bears minor warping and sun-fading on the lid. The bowl itself shows no notable damage.
Dimensions: 13cm diameter × 7.8cm height.
Condition: Good. Box lid has warping and sun-fading.
Includes: Tomobako and leaflet (shiori).
